Valley witnessed 30 massacres in 13 years: JKCCS

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society in its report on 'State of Human Rights in Kashmir said that at least 30 incidents of massacres were reported in the territory since January 1990 to March 2003.

The Coordinator of Coalition of Civil Society, Khurram Parvaiz told media men in Srinagar that the actual number of massacres in the Valley was much higher. He expressed displeasure over the denial of justice in most of the incidents.

The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the custodial disappearance of a Kashmiri youth, Ishtiaq Ahmad Wani from the Indian city of Chandigarh. The youth was arrested by Indian intelligence agencies on October 14 from a private communication centre in the city.

APHC leader Zafar Akbar Butt addressing public meetings at Hufroo, Buzgoo and Lolipora in Chadoora said that it was the moral duty of the United Nations to fulfil its pledge to the people of Kashmir in securing their right to self-determination.

The Chairperson of Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Yasmeen Raja in a statement denounced inhuman treatment meted out to the illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists at Udhampur Jail in Jammu.

The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement in Srinagar condemned the extension to the illegal detention of Hurriyet leaders Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo and Masarrat Aalam Butt. The party deplored that Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo had not been released despite completing a period of 20 years in jail.

In New Delhi, Puppet Chief Minister of occupied Kashmir, Omar Abdullah speaking at a function said that Kashmir was not an economic but a political problem, which could only be resolved through sustained, sober and sincere dialogue between Pakistan and India.
