Undue extension to Hurriyet leaders' detention denounced

17 October, 2012

Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League has condemned the undue extension to illegal detention of the party, President Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo and Vice President, Masarrat Aalam Butt.

The JKML Spokesman in a statement in Srinagar deplored that Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo had not been released despite completing 20 years in jail. On the other hand, Masarrat Aalam Butt is also in jail since September 2010, he added. The party complained that the detained leaders were not being presented before courts.

The JKML made it clear that India and its occupation authorities could not force the Hurriyet leaders and activists into submission through such coercive tactics.

The party also denounced inhuman treatment meted out to another detained Hurriyet leader, Mushtaq-ul-Islam.

End.
