US wants realistic cooperation with Pakistan: Munter
06 January, 2012
ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter on Thursday said his country looked forward to building realistic cooperation with Pakistan. Talking to reporters here, he said the US welcomed the assessments that Pakistani parliament was engaged in to determine Pakistan's future ties with the US. He said Washington saw this as an opening of an honest and firm dialogue with Islamabad in 2012 wherein the interests and values of both would be clear and straightforward. Munter inaugurated a four-day international Conference on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in Pakistan and Adjacent Regions. The ambassador said there were a lot of issues that needed to be discussed in a candid and open manner. About talks between ISI chief General Shuja Pasha and the CIA in Qatar, the ambassador said he had no specific details in this regard. However, he added that both countries were committed to a peaceful successful and prosperous Afghanistan. "There is also a realisation in the leadership of both countries to work together to achieve the goals in Afghanistan. We want to make sure that the settlement reached in Afghanistan is to the satisfaction of all regional countries," he said. To another question, Munter expressed confidence that all issues including the restoration of Nato supply routes would be resolved in a positive and constructive manner. End.
