ISLAMABAD: Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte will visit Pakistan next week. Negroponte, leading a high-level U.S. delegation, is scheduled to meet with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi during his visit.

The two sides are expected to discuss the peace deal reached between the Pakistani government and local Taliban, the TV channel said.

The provincial government in northwestern Pakistan and local Taliban on Wednesday reached a peace agreement after three rounds of negotiations.

Under the agreement, local Taliban will stop suicide attacks and the army will be gradually withdrawn from Swat valley in northwestern Pakistan province.

The United States is concerned that the peace deals might let the terrorists regroup and carry out attacks in Pakistan and abroad.

End.
