He said two Taliban were also killed and several houses damaged during the clash, adding it was unclear whose fire caused civilian casualties.

Zarifi said foreign forces were also present in the area this morning and cordoned off the area.

Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi, meanwhile, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that the clash between Taliban and foreign forces lasted for four hours in which, he claimed, three foreign troops were killed and several wounded.

He conceded that two Taliban were also killed and another sustained injuries in the firefight.

On contacting, ISAF press office said, According to our current operational reporting there was no airstrike by ISAF forces in the Shindand district of Herat province."

It did not say if ground operation was conducted in Shindad or not.

Nastwah Naseri, commander of commando unit in the district, meanwhile, said Afghan commando force killed six Taliban and wounded eight more during operation in Shindand district last night.

He said the security force also seized 10 vehicles.

The clash happened in Lilizai area of Qarabagh district in which an NDS worker was killed and three police wounded, Zrawar Khan Zahid, provincial police chief, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

He said a Taliban fighter was also killed during the clash while the security force seized several arms.

Parwan woman found hanged at home: The death of a 22-year-old woman found hanging in her home in the central Parwan province is under investigation, local officials said.

Provincial spokeswoman Roshan Khalid confirmed the woman, Farzana, was found dead at her home in the Sayed Khil district, but it was not clear if the woman took her own life or was killed.

Farzana's husband is a policeman and is currently on duty in Kabul, south of Parwan province, Khalid added.

Local officials said Farzana's brother-in-law and mother-in-law are being questioned about the death, but some believe it may have been suicide.

The family was very poor and the house had no food or other necessary living facilities, Khalid said.

"The woman known as Farzana was found hanged in the hall of her home. She had two children with no food and other living facilities in her home," Khalid said.

The news comes after the body of a 16-year-old girl was found in Nangarhar province on Monday amid consistent reports of a rise in violence against women.

The Nangarhar girl's death is being treated with suspicion and several of her family members including her father have been detained for questioning.

End.
