04 September, 2012
ISLAMABAD: Two more witnesses after Maulvi Hafiz Zubair recorded their statements against Imam Khalid Jadoon in the Rimsha Masih blasphemy case.
Hafiz Owais and Khurrum Shahzad in their statements supported Maulvi Hafiz's claim that Khalid Jadoon had tampered with evidence.
According to the police, Jadoon has now been added to the charge sheet as an accused in the case. The charge sheet will be presented before a trial court on September 14. Clerics from across the country have said that if Khalid Jadoon is guilty he should be punished.
Meanwhile, due to the strike of lawyers in the federal capital the hearing of a petition filed for the release of Rimsha Masih, a young Christian girl accused of blasphemy, was adjourned untill September 7.
Rimsha has been in custody since being arrested in a poor city suburb two and a half weeks ago, accused of burning papers containing verses from the holy Quran. Judge Muhammad Azam Khan adjourned the case because of the lawyers' strike, following a request from the lawyer for Rimsha's neighbour Hammad Malik, who filed the original complaint against her.
Police on Saturday arrested Imam Khalid Jadoon, the imam of the mosque in Rimsha's area who first submitted the burnt papers as evidence against her, after his deputy told the police that he had tampered with the evidence.
End.
