Sources said Inspector Tanoli was in not in his four-wheel-drive pickup truck by the time of the attack, which is suspected to be a motorcycle bomb blast.

The attack was carried out outside Inspector Tanoli's house in Purani Sabzi Mandi (Old Vegetable Market) area of the metropolis within the precinct of PIB Police Station.

Tanoli's car was damaged beyond recognition as it caught fire after the bomb went off and his house also took the hit and was partly destroyed in the blast.
