Two Rangers men among six shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Two Rangers' men, among six people, have been shot dead in different areas of the city, Media reports on Thursday.

According to police and rescue sources, the violence continued as the day progressed today as five more dead bodies were found from different areas.

These areas included Raxor Bridgr Pak Colony, KMC Quarters near Mewa Shah Graveyard, Khairabad Orangi Town. They were kidnapped and then murdered.

The bullet-riddled bodies of two Rangers' men were found near Mewa Shah Graveyard. They were kidnapped from Lyari. Sources said that they were identified as Muneer and Aijaz.

On the other hand, a policeman, Muharram Chandio, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen. He was asked to come out of his home and shot dead.

He was appointed constable at a police station at Bhittaiabad.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Thursday conducted a targeted operation and hunt-down of killers of two rangers' personnel in Lyari area and claimed to have apprehended at least eight alleged Lyari gang war members. They also recovered weapons during the operation. Following the operation intense firing was reported in Lyari and several other parts of the city.

The Maripur Road of Lyari turned into a battlefield when an angry mob pelted stones on passing vehicles, burnt tires and forced shopkeepers to halt all commercial activities.

According to details, a heavy contingent of Pakistan Rangers Sindh along with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) entered the area. They cordoned off Moosa Lane, Baghdadi, Aat Chowk, Cheel Chawk and Phoolpatti lane and started door-to-door search operation.

According to Rangers sources, during search operation, they arrested at least eight alleged members of Lyari war gangs, who were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation. They also seized arms and ammunition from their possession.

The sources said that Rangers personnel had also conducted an operation on Wednesday night to get their abducted hawaldar's released, however, the operation had failed.

Around a 1,000 Rangers personnel took part in the operation, flanked by over a dozen APC, while 22 entry and exit points to Lyari have been sealed.

Sources elaborated that on a tip-off about a torture cell near Saif Line, Rangers personnel entered the cell and recovered four people Nasrullah, Javed Gul, Asad Ullah and Fateh Khan. Quoting their statement, the sources said they were Afghan garbage scavengers and had reached the area to collect garbage when the members of Lyari gang war abducted them and resorted to torture.

It is pertinent to mention here that the bodies of the Rangers intelligence personnel were recovered from Mewa Shah Graveyard. They were kidnapped from Shah Baig Line when they were on an official assignment in Lyari. Rangers sources further said that both the victims played a vital role in the operation conducted on February 21, resulting in the death of the notorious criminal Rashid alias Reka.

Meanwhile, in reaction to the operation, the inhabitants of Malir, Asu Goth and Memon Goth gathered at main National Highway and staged a protest demonstration against the operation. The protesters pelted stones on passing vehicles and halted the smooth flow of traffic; due to which there was a severe traffic jam in the area.
