Two MQM workers among six killed in Karachi

KARACHI: Six people, including two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers, were gunned down in separate acts of violence in the metropolis on Wednesday. In the first incident, an MQM activist was gunned down outside his house in Aleemabad, Malir within the limits of Malir City police station. Station House Officer (SHO) Imtiaz Niazi said that unidentified armed pillion riders opened a volley of bullets on a man while sitting outside his house; resultantly, he received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. The officer said that deceased was the resident of the same area and affiliated with MQM Unit 79. He said that deceased was father of three children and used to work as a cable operator in the vicinity. Separately, another MQM worker was shot dead in Baldia Town within the Jurisdiction of Saeedabad police station. An official said Raheel, 27, son of Zafar, was sitting outside his house when armed men came close to him and opened fire, resultantly, he died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for a postmortem. Police said Raheel was associated with the MQM Unit 113, and was employed at a private factory. Moreover, a PST activist was shot dead in Jamshed Quarters area within the remit of Jamshed Quarters police station. Police said Adnan Baloch, 28, a resident of the said area, was a motor mechanic by profession. The officials said that unidentified culprits, after kidnapping the victim, shot him twice. The body was shifted to CHK for medico-legal formalities. A young man was shot dead and his brother injured in North Nazimabad within the precincts of Hyderi police station. According to police, Aswat, 26, son of Rizwanul Haq, and his brother Haris, 22, were standing near their home when unidentified culprits opened fire on them. Resultantly, both sustained bullet injuries and were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctor pronounced Aswat dead. The officer said that the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained. Furthermore, a man was shot dead in Shah Faisal No-1 within the limits of Shah Faisal police station. According to police, Mukhtiar, 35, son of Hameed, was sitting near his house when two armed riders emerged and opened indiscriminate fire on him; as a result, he received fatal bullet wounds and died instantly. The body was shifted to JPMC for an autopsy. The officer said that the deceased was the father of two children and used to work at a factory. He said that the motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, as the decease had no affiliation with any political or religious party. He suspected that Mukhtiar might have been killed over a personal enmity. A woman was killed and her husband injured in an attack in Machhar Colony, Keamari within the precincts of Docks police station. SHO Asif Ali said at least four men barged into a house in Machhar Colony in the wee hours of Wednesday and shot and injured 19-year-old Ayesha and her husband, 24-year-old Farooq. They were rushed to CHK for treatment, where during treatment Ayesha succumbed to her injuries. The SHO said that the woman and the man got free will marriage in their hometown in Peshawar a year ago, and fled to the said area. He said that the woman was pregnant. He said the injured man used to work as a vegetable vendor in the area. Police said a personal enmity might have been the motive behind the killing. Police have registered the FIR 27/2013 under section 302 and 324 against accused Haroon, Waqas, Nehar Ali and Aqib. End.
