Two MQM activists among 9 gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: In the ongoing wave of violence, two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activists among nine people were shot dead on Wednesday, police said.

Garden Police Station SHO Saleem Naz informed that the first victim Faisal, 29, was gunned down outside his shop on Ramswami Road. Relating eyewitness accounts the SHO said that two motorcyclists stopped at the mechanic shop, shot the victim multiple times and fled the scene. The victim succumbed to his injuries on the way to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). The SHO informed that deceased was an active worker of MQM and also the owner of the mechanic shop. The victim was married three months ago, and lived nearby the shop. Naz claims that initial investigation suggests a political motive.

Another MQM worker was shot dead by unknown assailants in Gulbahar area. According to Rizvia police the victim Farasat Mirza, 35, was going somewhere when he was targeted and shot. The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where he succumbed to his injuries. Police claim the victim was targeted due to his political affiliation. Sectarian violence: A Shia man was shot dead near Hyderi Imambargah, Lasbela. According to Rizvia police the deceased Imran Haider Naqvi, 25, was returning home on his motorcycle when he was shot dead by armed riders near Lasbela. The body was shifted to ASH for medico legal formalities. The victim worked at a shipping company, located near tower area. The police consider the ongoing sectarian violence is to be blamed.

Police informer shot dead: A police informer was killed on Mirza Adam Khan Road in Lyari. Chakiwara police said the deceased Noor Muhammad, 45, son of Abdul Samad, was on his motorcycle when armed riders gunned him down. His body was shifted to the CHK for an autopsy. The police officer said the deceased was a resident of Gulshan-e-Ghazi Baldia Town, adding, that Muhammad had narrowly escaped an attack in Mochko area during 2012. As per initial investigation the victim was killed for spying for the police.

Traders killed: In separate incidents, at least two shop owners were shot dead and one was injured in city. A shop owner was killed while another critically injured in an armed attack near Matric Board Office. An official of the North Nazimabad police station said that the victims, Samiullah, 36, and Tariq, 32, were shot by unidentified pillion riders outside a pan shop. Both critically wounded victims were rushed to the ASH where doctors pronounced Samiullah dead and Tariq in critical condition. The officer said that the deceased and injured, hailed from Mardan and had been running their shop for 13 years. Both were residents of Hassan Di Silva Town. The official further said that personal enmity could be the reason behind the incident.

A scrap dealer was killed outside his shop in sector 19-D, Shah Latif. According to the Shah Latif Police SHO Hassan Ali Sheikh, the victim Moosa Khan, 45, was shot dead by an unknown man during a quarrel that erupted while he was sitting with some people outside his shop. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy. He said the victim was a father of four children and lived in the same area, adding that a monitory dispute was behind the incident.

A 22-year-old man Haneef was shot dead near Jackson Bazaar by unknown assailants. Jackson police said that the victim, was standing near Jackson Bazaar where unidentified pillion riders opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. The victim, a resident of Macchar Colony, hailed from Charbagh Swat and worked at a private company as cleaner. The officer said that preliminary investigation revealed he might have been killed in some tribal dispute. The body was brought to the CHK for an autopsy.

A man was shot dead near his house in sector 7-A, Sarjani Town. According to Sarjani police SHO Ejaz Rajpar, the victim Khaild, 27, alias Ganja, was attacked and killed by unidentified men on motorcycles. The body was shifted to the ASH for post-mortem. The motive behind the incident is uncertain as the victim had affiliations with any political or religious party.

Robbery: In another incident, a middle-aged man was gunned down by robbers in Block-7 of Clifton. Boat Basin police said that Minhaj Zulfiqar, 55, was returning home after withdrawing money from a nearby bank, when unidentified culprits shot him dead and relieved him of possessions. The victim was settled in Australia for many years, and was visiting with family after performing Umrah about ten days ago. The officer said that the deceased had to leave for Australia on Wednesday night.
