The freezing cold these days is beyond miserable. For people belonging to the lower income groups, winters are fast becoming more unbearable than the smouldering summers. This is because of the twin problems of electricity and gas load shedding. There are so many times in the day when one finds oneself completely out of both necessities. There are entire families living in this weather, huddled in their cold houses without the gas heaters working and no electricity to power electric heaters. They are not provided with even enough gas to power their cooking stoves. The only people who seem to be breezing by in this cold weather are those who have sufficient electricity supply via generators so that they can keep their electric heaters on all the time. This is the height of things — we citizens have been left to fend for ourselves. It is begged that the government do something about this two-headed load shedding snake before all out misery spills out onto the streets, consuming everyone it encounters in a blind rage. The people, when left to their own devices, can do anything. SAMEENA KHAN
