Turncoats and CM Sharif... By I Ahmed

06 September, 2012

Mian Shahbaz Sharif and his party have been accusing Imran Khan of having Musharraf's cronies in his team. I noticed that Chief Minister Sharif has made a lot of accusations on the 'turncoats' who are joining the PTI but there is not a single salvo against these people of being financially or morally corrupt. He took pains to explain Musharraf's cronies were responsible for the Laal Masjid operation, drone attacks, judicial crisis, etc, but not for financial corruption, which is rampant in Pakistan today. Is not the forward bloc of the PML-Q supporting the PML-N government in Punjab? Were these politicians not Musharraf's cronies?

Politics in Pakistan will continue to be run by a few families and it is no surprise that people will continue to change loyalties, and the PTI being the new kid on the block would also benefit from it.

My request to Mian Shahbaz Sharif is that having a nuclear bomb or drone attacks or, for that matter, actions against militants are 'sins' but they are overshadowed by the rampant financial and moral corruption in the country impacting the lives of 99 percent of the population. He also highlighted that the current rulers had siphoned off billions. The country lacks accountability at all levels, including the provincial level. Let us put Musharraf's cronies to shame by providing a detailed account of the Lahore Ring Road Package 15 interchange expenses and come out clean. Else, the pot should stop calling the kettle black.
