Training for the police... By Tajammal

16 December, 2013

The police are facing a tough time these days. Our police are not trained for countering terrorism. Their training is primarily confined to control law and order. Even the elite force and the recently created anti-terrorist force is unable to deal with suicide bombing and other improvised terrorist activities. A quick response is required from the police force against any terrorist attack, which our force lacks. The force deputed for escorting the Sri Lankan team could not fire even a single bullet when the team was attacked near Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The terrorists fled very easily after accomplishing their mission. There are many other examples where our police force has miserably failed.

To get ourselves out of this situation we must either permanently acquire the services of army officers and jawans (soldiers) to augment the police force or we should get our police force trained by the army. Officers should get compulsory commando training from the military before giving them field assignments. Other ranks must also be trained accordingly.
