Traders want army in Karachi
20 June, 2012
Karachi: All Pakistan Organisation of Small Traders and Cottage Industries (APOST & CI) staged a protest demo here on Tuesday against targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom and harassment of traders by extortionists and demanded that the city be handed over to army for an evenhanded operation against the lawbreakers. The demo, which was also joined by All Karachi Anjuman Tajiran, was staged in Saddar and attended by a large number of traders and shopkeepers who carried banners and placards against rampant lawlessness in Karachi. Addressing the demo Haroon Chand, Mehboob Alam, Mehmood Hamid, Mairaj Ahmed, Illiyas Memon and Tanveer Bari said the sitting government has failed to control lawlessness in Karachi and providing protection of life and property to citizens as well as traders. They said all the promises of Sindh chief minister with traders in a recent meeting at the Chief Minister's House proved a deception and the government did not take any solid and practical steps to improve law and order in the city. They said 10 ton 15 people are murdered daily by target killers in Karachi, but these murderers are still away from the long arm of the law. End.
