Tonnes of explosives seized in Mohmand

GHALANAI: Security forces in Mohmand Agency have recovered five tonnes of explosives and thousands of mines among other things during a successful operation. Speaking at a media briefing on Monday along with Political Agent Dr Amber Ali, Mohmand Rifles Commandant Col Mushtaq Hussain said that following the arrest of a suicide bomber and his accomplices on Thursday, and acting on strong intelligence reports, the security forces conducted an operation and succeeded in recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition. The forces also seized five anti-aircraft guns, 75 RR guns, 300 litres of chemical and thousands of hand-grenades, mortars, material for suicide jackets, satellite phones, hate literature and bullets. The official said that the security forces have also arrested as many as 50 militants from the area in different raids conducted during the last three months, which resulted in peace in the area and improved trust of masses on the security forces. Giving details of the operation, Col Hussain said the Mohmand Rifles arrested a suicide bomber on January 31 along with his accomplices and subsequently started a search operation in different areas of Tehsil Halimzai, which led to the recovery of a huge quantity of arms and ammunition that was concealed in a house and a nearby field in Shanikhel area.
