Time's up for PML-N, PPP: Imran Khan

23 January, 2012

* PTI chief says condition of country cannot improve while PPP, PML-N are in power

BHALWAL: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has predicted that a change was not faraway, and the days of the two major political parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), were numbered.

Addressing a rally here on Sunday, Imran once again lamented the plight of Pakistan, where the poor were cursed to remain poor under the oppression of those with power, who had been holding the helms of this country for ages.

The PTI leader picked apart the leadership of other political parties, especially the PML-N and the PPP. He said PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif was a hypocrite, who never raised a finger at President Asif Ali Zardari or questioned him about the billions of rupees that had been misappropriated. "Both of them have been savouring roasted pheasants for breakfast together," he said.

Responding to Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani's statement regarding the PTI's agenda, Imran Khan said that his party's agenda was far better than that of the ruling party.

Imran Khan said corruption had spread across the country, and that the PTI would eradicate all that corruption in record time.

He vowed to empower the farmers by providing them with cheap fertilisers, electricity and quality seeds so that the average production could be brought at least at par with India.

He said through facilities to farmers, Punjab alone could increase its production worth Rs 300 billion.

"Our farmer toils all year long, but his labour never bears a fruit which he can pick, the feudal lords always take what is rightfully his," the PTI chief said.

He said that farmers were in dire need of justice, as 30 percent of their production was "looted by brokers sitting in the assemblies".

He said the sugar mafia in Pakistan was very strong and they were not making payment to the farmers.

He said the PTI would collect double tax from those who had been evading it, while the poor were made to pay.

He said there was no rule of law. "People's lives and property are at the mercy of looters and plunderers," he said.

Referring to the NRO case, he said that the president had deposited Rs 5 billion in Swiss banks after looting the money from the national economy while the prime minister said he would not write any letter to the Swiss courts.

He said the nation had a right to know from where the president got that money.

He said the poor were in jails in theft cases, and those who had corruption money were being protected.

Imran Khan asked what Nawaz Sharif had done for Punjab during his three terms in government in the last 25 years.

He said the situation of the province had in fact deteriorated. He said almost 30 people had died in the past few days due to contaminated drugs, and the condition of law and order had gone from bad to worse.

The PTI chief said that many problems in Pakistan could easily be resolved, but while the PPP and the PML-N were present, "because both the parties are themselves a problem". He said change would come in the country when important institutions like railways, PIA and steel mills would be run by honest and competent people. He said corruption could be eliminated within 90 days.

End.
