Ties with US to be based on mutual trust, respect: Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday night conveyed his felicitations to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on telephone, said the Foreign Office.
Nawaz thanked Kerry and reiterated his government's resolve to further consolidate and strengthen relations with the US on the basis of mutual trust and respect.He underscored the need to strengthen the strategic dialogue between both countries.
He emphasised the importance of regular high-level exchanges between the two sides in order to build mutual interests and shared goals.Kerry reaffirmed the importance of Pakistan in US bilateral relations for enduring peace and stability in the region.
He reassured that the US administration remained steadfast in supporting the new democratic government in Pakistan. The two also discussed the regional situation. Secretary Kerry provided an update on the recent developments and expressed appreciation for Pakistan's positive role in advancing peace and stability in the region.
Meanwhile, Secretary General (SG) of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu felicitated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on assuming office for the third time and termed it a manifestation of the trust, admiration and belief of the nation in his leadership.
According to the Foreign Office, in his message, Ihsanoglu expressed confidence in the continued support of Pakistan to the OIC which will be a source of strength and inspiration to the OIC in its efforts to assist the member states in overcoming the challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah.
Ihsanoglu also conveyed his best wishes for progress and prosperity of Pakistan and its people under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. Separately, President of Egypt Mohamed Morsi has sent a message of congratulations to Nawaz Sharif.
Morsi in his felicitation message said, "It is with immense pleasure that I extend to your Excellency heartfelt congratulations on your taking over as Prime Minster Pakistan after your party's winning of parliamentary elections."
He said, "I wish you all the best of success in achieving your assignments."He said, "I am also looking forward to promoting the strong bilateral relations between our two countries and working together to advance mutual cooperation in a way that benefits our two brotherly peoples."
