PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber targeted a 'peace committee' commander in Bazikhel village, killing three of his guards and wounding five others.
"It was a suicide attack on (anti-Taliban force commander) Faheem Khan," police official Shafiullah Khan told reporters. Two community police officers, residents of Bazikhel, were killed on the spot while the third victim succumbed to his wounds at the Lady Reading Hospital, official sources said.
Witnesses said the suicide bomber blew himself up near the vehicle of the anti-Taliban force commander at Bazikhel Chowk in Badhaber area on Kohat Road.
"Faheem Khan was not present in the vehicle, thus surviving the attack," said the witnesses. The five injured persons, including 12-year-old Baz Muhammad, were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital, the city's oldest hospital.
Faheem Khan recently deactivated his anti-Taliban force after the government, what he said, "disappointed" him by not extending support to his force. It is one of many such attacks Faheem Khan has survived.
End.
