Three fall prey to sectarian killings in Karachi

KARACHI: Three people, including two activists of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), were shot dead in different parts of the city on Tuesday. Muhammad Ali alias Mama, 33, was going in a rickshaw along with Muhammad Nauman, 22, when unidentified armed men sprayed them with bullets near Pan Mandi Jodia Bazaar within the precincts of Risala police station. As a result, both received multiple injuries and were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi where they died. According to the Risala Police, both the victims were going home from the city courts when unidentified men on motorcycles targeted them. Both the victims belonged to ASWJ, formerly the defunct Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), and it was a sectarian killing, police claimed. ASWJ spokesman Maulana Taj Hanfi said that Ali was their legal adviser and Nauman was the member of the core committee. He condemned the killing of the two activists and demanded the government arrest the culprits. In another incident, a bystander was killed in Memon Society when unidentified assailants restored to firing to protest target killings of the ASWJ activists, while unidentified people set a vehicle on fire on Shah Waliullah Road. The victim was identified as Ishaq, who lived in the same area and was standing near his residence when he was targetted. Security was breefed up and heavy contingents of police and Rangers were deployed in sensitive areas after the incident. End.
