Three dead, five hurt in Karachi bomb blast

KARACHI: Three people were killed and five others injured in a powerful bomb blast in the Quaidabad police limits on Thursday night. Senior Superintendent of Police (East) Imran Shaukat said that the blast occurred at 1:30am in the Muzaffarabad Colony in Landhi.

The SSP said an intelligence officer, who was present at the crime scene, told him that he could see several people lying injured on the spot. Police called in the bomb disposal squad and forensic experts, and moved the injured to the JPMC.

According to an initial BDS report, the remote-controlled device was a in a shopping bag and weighed about three kilograms. It contained ball bearings and locally-made explosive material and was attached to a timer.

The report also said that the bomb was planted in a parked rickshaw with remote control and its electronic timer devices.The SSP also said that the rickshaw was parked just outside the office of a cable operator near the Pakistan Rangers Headquarters 42 Wing.

After the explosion, people came out of their homes to see what had happened.Three people were killed and five others injured, while walls of two buildings and two motorcycles were damaged.

Deputy Executive Director Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Seemi Jamali said the bodies of three persons were brought to the JPMC. She said that five persons were brought to the Jinnah Hospital for treatment. She also said that one of the dead was identified as Syed Muhammad Tahir. After the incident, personnel of law enforcement agencies reached the spot and cordoned off the area. The bomb disposal squad, Edhi and Chippa volunteers also reached the spot.
