QUETTA: Three people from the Hazara community were gunned down and two others, including a two-year-old child, sustained critical injuries on Monday in the provincial capital as sectarian violence continues unabated in the city.
According to police sources, unidentified assailants opened fire on a yellow cab carrying Hazaras at Killi Mubarak Chowk, Spini Road.
Resultantly, three men, identified as Habibullah, Muhammad Ali and Mustafa, lost their lives on the spot and Muhammad Ameer, Raza Hassan and a child passing by, Hashmatullah, sustained injuries. Police, Frontier Corps (FC) and rescue teams rushed to the area and shifted the injured and bodies to Bolan Medical Complex, and cordoned off the area.
"The incident seems to be an act of sectarian violence," police said. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Police have registered a case and investigation is underway. Following the incident, Hazara community members blocked the Eastern Bypass and Brewery Road in protest for all kinds of traffic. They burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the targeted killing of Hazara community.
End.
