The rules of demoracy... By Amjad

There is no doubt that we have succeeded in consolidating the roots of democracy in an unstable soil. The clouds of change seem nearer as the present democratic government is completing its constitutional tenure. Will the upcoming elections bode well for Pakistanis? These will be conducted across the country except in some sensitive areas of Karachi, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — we are well aware of the serious situation in these volatile areas where even the media has no access. The question arises: will the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) be able to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in the above mentioned areas? Democracy ensures maximum happiness and prosperity for a maximum number of people. If it fails in doing so, then a bleak future will be the fate of the common people, as they will continue to suffer.
