The only way forward

It is extremely sad to see people fighting about the political and religious motives and conspiracy theories behind the attack on Malala Yousafzai. First and foremost, we should be extremely thankful that the young girl who has done more to improve the image of this country than most of us combined is stable and improving healthwise. Secondly, I personally believe that, now, we should be focusing on the message that Malala has been trying to spread, the same message that became the reason for an attempt on her life. It is the same message our government has been ignoring since the formation of this country. I think it is time we realise the seriousness of the situation — a situation we are in simply because of a lack of education and a misinterpretation of religion. They try to bomb one school; I say we open 10 more. They try to limit primary education; I say we work together and make sure the minimum literacy level in society exceeds at least high school. The number one social problem today is lack of initiative in education, and the sooner we address it, the faster we will see real change around us. FIZZA NAVEED
