The forgotten hero... By Asghar

13 September, 2012

Sepoy Maqbool Husain, 335139 of AK Regiment, was a POW in India for 40 years (1965-2005). He suffered physically, mentally and emotionally in Indian captivity before returning to Pakistan in September 2005 exchange of prisoners settlement (story published in an Urdu daily on September 6, 2012).

This story has generated some questions in my mind. Where is Sepoy Maqbool Husain now? Is he being looked after as a ghazi? There is no doubt that families of shaheed soldiers are looked after by the Pakistan army. Was he recommended for any military award? Has anybody seen Sepoy Maqbool Husain's name in any awards list during the last seven years? What is the criterion for military awards? I am a witness of the 1965 war. Would the ISPR like to inform the nation about the fate of Sepoy Maqbool Husain?
