The expressway... By A A Khan

23 January, 2014

The Islamabad Expressway is the most important artery of Islamabad. It also caters to the needs of the residents of Rawalpindi. Traffic beyond Karal Chowk or Airport Chowk is chaotic; heavy truck and trailers, buses and other vehicles play havoc on the road. On top of that, the main CNG stations are also located on this expressway, becoming a major nuisance for drivers. Street lights disappear after crossing Karal Chowk and deadly road accidents are common.

The government is considering the construction of a metro-bus service for the residents of Pindi and Islamabad. In my opinion, the Islamabad Expressway is the right place for this kind of service; there is sufficient land and space available. The concerned authorities are earnestly requested to pay due attention to this serious problem before it becomes unmanageable.
