The conspiracies have arrived... By Sana
18 October, 2012
As expected, conspiracy theories have started sprouting up to diminish the importance of the Malala incident. Banners and slogans on Facebook have appeared asking the nation to question itself on who is more important, Malala or Afia? Some banners tell us that Malala was a US agent, employed by her 'masters' to spread western culture in Pakistan while others say that the whole incident was a neat ploy, acted out to distract the nation from the anti-Islamic film protests. Are the people who are promoting and sharing these ideas actually human beings? Do they not see that a young child, a symbol of innocence, was cruelly shot in the head? No protest or strategy is more important than that. Sometimes it is as though Pakistanis have lost the ability to think rationally and to feel compassion for their fellow human beings. SANA ZAIDI
