Time is changing; world is shifting and the trend of our priorities is also changing. But nobody could imagine that the social trends will take an anti-clockwise turn. Before the advent of internet and technology gadgets, our priorities were entirely different. People used to spend their time with families and their focus was on the social values. The rise of www, laptops and smart phones has increased the connectivity but it has made our lives complex and far-stretched. We can’t keep ourselves away from social media and smart phones for a minute or two. There is no doubt that with technology we have the world just a click away but one can see the problems arising in human lives due to the excessive use of technology. We people are obsessed with its usage and can’t imagine our lives without it due to the addiction.

The flood of information on internet has satiated our minds which is the cause of depression and anxiety especially among young people. People have hundreds of friends on social networking sites and they have no true friend in real life. We care about taking pictures and posting them on Face book rather than enjoying the moment in its true sense.

Our obsession has increased to that extent that we feel isolated and alone without our phones or any other technology gadget. Materialism has become the sole concept of our lives. The ads of brands and promotion of events on social media has stolen our peace of mind. We want to buy all brands and attend every event. We try to get the latest smart phones to show off ourselves in society. In fact we are empty from inside and want brands to make our identity. We are letting technology to control us and in this way we are becoming its slaves.

Parents have no time to monitor their kids as they are busy in updating their profiles and children don’t want to spend their time with their parents as they are too busy with their video games. These are the signs that show we are moving towards destruction but I must say we still have time as it is the starting point. We should give thought to our situation and should take control of our lives before it’s too late. All we need is to focus on the positive uses of technology. We should use it when we need it rather than wasting our time on it all the time. We all must understand that life around us is changing rapidly and we have to remain alert to steer with it.
