Teachers' issues to be resolved on priority: Shahjahan

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Education Sardar Shahjahan Yousaf has said that teachers are the backbone of academic system and pledged that their issues would be resolved on priority.
"Being a lively nation we must help and support the teachers and resolve the issues and problems they are facing with their profession," he said. Addressing a seminar on 'Take a stand for Teachers', organised by the National Commission for Human Development in connection with the World Teachers' Day, the minister said Islam had paid considerable attention to teachers for being the first brick in the structure of social development.
He said teachers were the role models for the children who acquaint future of the nation with the secrets of the universe and transform them into responsible citizens. Shahjahan said the responsibility of guiding and developing behaviours and mentalities of individuals and communities also lies on the shoulder of the mentors. "An educationist says, 'Teachers are the good exemplars to whom the pupils refer inadvertently'," the minister quoted. He said further those who respect teachers could rapidly achieve the stairs of progress.
NCHD Director General Khusro Khan said the government was committed to improving the status of teachers and education in the country.
The DG paid tribute to teachers who were responsible for improving the socio-economic status of nations. Society has always applauded the role of teachers and the celebration of the day on October 5 every year was a proof of it.
