Taking small, caring steps... By Khushboo

Pakistan is facing its worst energy crisis, caused by several political, economic, administrative, bureaucratic and social disadvantages. We need both short as well as long term policies to combat the many ongoing challenges but what we need the most is to reign in our attitudes during this critical time. We, as a nation, are not showing a responsible attitude. As citizens we can play our roles in a plausible way to minimise the issue. Undoubtedly, steps at a higher level are needed to get rid of our energy problems but the public's small steps can help in our speedy recovery. We can at least close the tap during the brushing of our teeth and take care not to use excessive amounts of water during a shower. Excessive and undue use of transport should be minimised, the lights and fans should be switched off when not in use and we ought to make sure that electronic items are not left switched on when not in use. Such small and caring steps will help modify our public's behaviour and will contribute in the country's progress, saving us from disastrous economic, political, social and psychological consequences.
