Swati angst for Malala... By Mujahid

The whole world respects Malala for what she did for female education. However, in Swat, everybody has a story or conspiracy theory about the brave angel Malala. People from her home town of Mingora are not ready to accept Malala. They blame her for what happened and openly call her an agent of the CIA and other intelligence agencies. Some fools still believe her shooting was a drama played out by intelligence agencies. Paid students have removed posters of her name from the walls of the Girls Degree College in Mingora. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had changed the name of the college to Malala Girls Degree College but soon after the students of the same institute held a strike against the name of Malala and tore down the signboard with her name on it. They were not ready to accept the new name of the college. The main reason behind this hatred is that the locals of Mingora do not want to see Malala rise to such heights as she belongs to a middle class family. They also believe that Malala is from Shangla, a nearby district. This kind of behaviour of the locals shows their support and sympathy for the Taliban. Being an educated Swati, I will always salute Malala and accept her as a daughter of the nation. MUJAHID TORWALI
