Recently, Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced that mobile services would remain suspended from 12 pm to 3 pm in Karachi. This announcement was made almost 12 hours before the suspension. The reason for the suspension of mobile services was that there were reports of terrorism in the port city. The suspension of mobile services is meant to disable terrorists as they fail to contact each other and this results in the failing of their evil plans. However, to announce the decision of mobile service suspension 12 hours before seems strange as terrorists will also get to know that there will be no mobile signals so they can change their plans. It would be better if 15 minutes before the suspension, this announcement were made, causing great difficulty for the terrorists as it will leave them with no alternate plan. However, suspension of mobile services is no solution for terrorism because it causes major problems for the common people. It is hoped that the next government, which will be formed after the general elections will resolve this serious issue. MUBASHIR MAHMOOD
