Six soldiers, 17 Taliban killed in Kurram clash

PESHAWAR: Six soldiers and 17 Taliban were reportedly killed in an overnight clash in a village of Kurram Agency late on Tuesday night. Officials said that around 50 Taliban attacked troops during a search operation in Jogi village. "Six soldiers were killed and four injured in the clash. Troops repelled the attack and killed 17 militants," said Sher Bahadar Khan, a government official in Kurram. A senior Frontier Corps official confirmed the attack and the casualties, and added that troops had taken control of the area. Independent confirmation of the death toll was not immediately possible as the lawless tribal region is barred for journalists. Troops are still engaged in a search-and-cordon operation that was launched in July last year. Security forces claim to have cleared most of the area of the agency. End.
