22 February, 2013
KARACHI: Sindh Assembly on Thursday granted restoration of Commissionerat System in the province after repealing the Sindh Peoples Local Government Act (SPLGA) 2012 with majority votes.
PPP leader and Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro tabled the bills repealing the SLGA and restoring the Commissioners System together in suddenly in presence of the MQM lawmakers. The MQM lawmakers who had remained opponents of the Commissioners System strongly protested against the move and opposed it.
Members belonging to the Opposition parties, the PML-F, NPP and PML-Likeminded remained silent during protest of the MQM lawmakers. The PML-F and its allies had parted ways with the PPP government over SPLGA 2012.
Speaking at the house, the MQM's deputy parliamentary leader, Faisal Sabzwari, rejected the government's move. He criticised the PPP and its ministers who had earlier termed the SPLGA 2012 in interest of people of Sindh, and went to repeal it soon after the MQM parted ways.
PPP ministers, however, rejected criticism on taking U-turn on the issue. Pir Mazharul Haq, Agha Siraj Durrani and Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the bill had been passed in the interest of the people.
