KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution with majority votes asking the federal government to take action against Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain for his anti-army statements. The resolution was jointly presented by PML-Functional lawmaker Naand Kumar, PTI lawmaker Samar Ali Khan, PML-N legislator Haji Shafiq Jamote and PPP leader Sohrab Sarki.Lawmakers from all political parties with the exception of the MQM unanimously voted in favour of the resolution with Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani chairing the session.

They also strongly condemned the letter dispatched on behest of Altaf Hussain to the foreign missions in the country about the ongoing operation for restoration of peace in Karachi.Separately, the MQM submitted resolutions in the Sindh Assembly targeting PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari and PTI Chairman Imran Khan. The resolutions submitted by the MQM claimed that Kaptaan and Zardari had given controversial remarks against the army and national institutions.

Speaking to reporters outside the Sindh Assembly after the passage of a resolution condemning Altaf, MQM leader Muhammad Hussain said that there was an understanding that no resolution would be brought against any party in the assembly session.MQM leader Sardar Ahmed said the speaker did not hear the MQM lawmakers and the resolutions against Altaf were passed without listening to their concerns. The MQM’s resolutions against Asif Zardari and Imran Khan are now likely to be taken up when the Sindh Assembly resumes it proceedings.
