ISLAMABAD: On directives of Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Sherry Rehman, special audit of the Pakistan Television (PTV) Corporation and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has been started, ‘media’ learnt here Tuesday.
“The minister has been receiving complaints about the two public sector media organizations and special audit has been initiated in light of the same,” an official said, wishing not to be identified.
The official said the minister has directed to cut out the deadwood in the Ministry of Information as well as its attached departments, as she has decided to give a new vision to the ministry. He said the minister has decided to launch various new projects to end the old-fashioned bureaucratic style.
The official said that the minister last interviewed four senior officers for appointment of a new principal information officer (PIO). He said the interviewees include Ghulam Rousal Bajwa, Muhammad Sharif, I N Abbas and Javed Sarfaraz. Bajwa is likely to be named as new PIO, he added.
Bajwa, who is Senior Joint Secretary Information Ministry, has been given additional charge of MD Shalimar Recording Company. Tariq Imam who was MD Shalimar Recording Company has been removed from his job.
“Inductions in the PTV and Shalimar Recording Company were made in the previous government in three categories: Contractual, extension and re-employment, and the new minister has decided to review all such cases. It has also been decided that contracts of resource persons who were hired by the previous regime in the PTV on huge salaries will not be renewed,” the official said. “The incompetent retired officers who were recruited in the ministry and its attached departments on hefty salaries with lavish perks and privileges are going to face the axe,” he added.
