Sher Afgan Niazi passes away

12 October, 2012

LAHORE: Former federal minister Dr Sher Afgan Niazi passed away after prolonged liver complications in Mianwali on Thursday.

Dr Niazi had been fighting liver cancer for the last six months and was unconscious for the past four days. Politicians from all parties expressed their grief over the demise, saying that Dr Niazi was a politician of high repute and his services for promotion of democracy and supremacy of the constitution would be remembered for a long time.

Hailing from Mianwali, Niazi was the minister for parliamentary affairs during former president Pervez Musharraf's regime. He had been elected to the National Assembly in 2002 as a member of the Pakistan People's Party and later joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid.

End.
