Several PML-Q, PPP leaders likely to join PML-N

03 October, 2012

LAHORE: As a result of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) drive to contact politicians of other parties, some of the PML-Q and PPP leaders in Punjab are expected to join the PML-N.

According to sources in the PML-N, PML-Q lawmaker Raza Hayat Hiraj, PPP leader Sahibzada Ghazanfar Gul, former NA speaker Fakhar Imam and former Lodhran nazim Abdul Rehman Kanju are in contact with the PML-N, and are expected to join the party.

PPP leaders from Gujarat, including Ahmad Saeed, the elder brother of Water and Power Minister Ahmad Mukhtar, Nawabzada Mazhar Ali Khan and Nawabzada Muzaffar Ali Khan, brothers of Ghazanfar Gul, have already joined the PML-N.

"There is no option left for Ghazanfar Gul as his brothers have already joined the PML-N due to their reservations over the PPP's alliance with their archrivals, the Chaudhrys of Gujrat," said sources.

According to a statement, Hiraj reposed confidence in the PML-Q leadership, he was still in contact with the PML-N leaders and was expected to join the party, said sources.

Fakhar Imam and Kanju had also met the PML-N leadership and given positive signals, said sources. "Current and former parliamentarians are now realising the importance and soaring popularity of the PML-N and wished to come into its folds," said a PML-N leader. The PML-N senior leaders have been tasked to finalise a list of party candidates for the upcoming general elections.

According to sources, the PML-N leadership has asked senior party leaders, including Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Khawaja Asif, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Raja Zafar ul Haq, Senator Pervez Rashid, to gear up contacts important leaders of other parties.

The PML-N leaders have also sped up contacts with the nationalist leaders from Sindh and Balochistan in order to strengthen the party there.
