Seven hurt as buildings collapse in Karachi

Karachi: At least seven people were injured as two buildings incidentally collapsed in different areas of the metropolis on Saturday. In the first incident, an under-construction building collapsed in the Brigade Lines Area as the upper portion of Apveer building fell into the shop constructed in the lower portion of the building. Resultantly seven people got injured. The building was located along Compressor Market, Nursery Road, Lines Area within the limits of Brigade police Station. The incident occurred when the upper portion of the building cracked and it fell down on the shop in the lower portion. Injured were identified as Abid Hussain, Kamal, 13, Irfan, 17, Nabeel, 16, Imran 30, and Abdul Razzaq. They were sitting in the shop. All of them were shifted to the Jinnah Hospital. Accroding to SP Usman Bajwa, the incident occurred due to the construction work. In another incident, a two-storey building collapsed in Liaquatabad area. However, no loss of life was reported. According to details, the building caved in, in the area of Liaquatabad No. 5 in the morning due to some digging work in an empty plot next to it. The building was located near Petrol station of the aforementioned locality; plot no. 5/20. The dwellers of the building, however were fortunate as they remained save. They had already vacated the house when they felt some shaking movements. According to police, no case had been registered against the incident and no legal inquiry initiated. End.
