ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Mushahidullah Khan Friday asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to remove Fawad Chaudhry as information minister.
During a Senate session chaired by Sadiq Sanjrani, Mushahidullah moved a privilege motion against Chaudhry’s remarks in the National Assembly a day earlier.
The information minister had criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) governments and alleged that Mushahidullah appointed his brother and cousin to top slots in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Chaudhry on Thursday apologised to members of the opposition after they staged a brief walkout from a National Assembly session in protest over his “derogatory remarks”.
The information minister had taken to the floor of the House and alleged that the PPP and the PML-N “looted Pakistan and recruited their favorites in the Pakistan Steel Mill, Pakistan International Airlines and Radio Pakistan.”
Responding to the allegations, Mushahidullah said, “His information is based on lies.”
“Chaudhry said I used to load luggage in PIA but I just want to clarify that I had completed by BA-LLB before the information minister was born,” he added.
Mushahidullah demanded Chaudhry to provide evidence that he had got appointed his brother and cousin to top slots. “If the information minister fails to provide evidence, he will have to issue an apology on the floor of the House.”
Meanwhile, PML-N’s Murtaza Javed Abbasi said Chaudhry should be banned from attending parliament proceedings for a month. “Is this the attitude of ministers in an Islamic welfare state?”
PPP Senator Maula Bux Chandio said, “Some ministers are part of the incumbent government to cause destruction. If you mock opposition members then we will not let you go easily. We will not hurl abuses at you but will definitely respond.”
Furthermore, Leader of the Senate Shibli Faraz said, “Mushahidullah was hurt and we stand by him.”
