Seminar on Iran cancelled after threats
21 June, 2012
LONDON: A seminar – Peace with Iran – organised in the British House of Lords for this month, was cancelled after pressure on the organisers from The Jewish Chronicle amid warnings of violence.
UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group of the House of Lords had arranged the seminar for a debate on restoring diplomatic relations with Iran, lifting the siege and threat of war, exposing "the deception and hypocrisy" and proposing peaceful and legal solutions to "the contrived crisis" with the country.
The Jewish Chronicle also threatened Lord Nazir Ahmed to keep him from chairing the seminar. The newspaper warned him of violence if the debate went ahead. The newspaper also contacted the Labour Party with objections over the 'extremist views' of some of those involved in the seminar.
