School vice principal shot dead in Quetta

QUETTA: The vice principal of a government school was gunned down on Arbab Karam Raod on Tuesday morning. Mir Nazir Marri, vice principal of Government Killi Sheikhan High School, was on his way to the school when unidentified armed men, riding a motorcycle, opened fired at him. Marri died on the spot as the attackers fled the scene. Marri's body was moved to the Provincial Sandeman Hospital for autopsy. According to DIG (Operations) Qazi Wahid, Marri was also a social activist and relative of Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, the Marri tribe chief. Following the vice principal's murder, students of the school came out and staged protests in several areas of the provincial capital. The students condemned the killing and burnt tyers on Sariab Road, Joint Road, Arbab Karam Khan Road, Zarhgoon Road, Double Road, Hockey Chowk and Imdad Chowk, blocking roads for traffic. They also damaged traffic signals and attacked other public property. Law enforcement agencies, including Frontier Corps and police, rushed to the spot and resorted to aerial firing and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters. The All Government Teachers Association has expressed concern over the brutal killing of Nazir Marri. It said the association would close schools for an indefinite period if the killers were arrested within three days. No group or person had claimed responsibility for the killing until the filing of this report. End.
