Scattered garbage... By Sundus
04 January, 2013
I am a resident of North Karachi. It is so sad to see that there are no garbage bins provided to north Karachi by the government. The garbage is thrown on the sides of the roads, on empty plots, parking areas, near the fronts of our gates, on green belts and even in gutters. This affects our environment and, most importantly, our sewage system, which gets blocked by the garbage dumped along the roadside by local shopkeepers, hotel staff and residents. This garbage invites diseases like dengue because it provides a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. I do not understand why the city district government of Karachi is not taking action to provide basic services like garbage bins but keeps talking about keeping the city clean and mosquito-free. Even if the government orders the cleaning of sewage lines, workers take the litter out but they do not take it away and instead dump it on
the road. I appeal to the government to take some action to keep North Karachi clean and sanitised. SUNDUS HAROON
