SC seeks report on ex-OGRA chief's escape

03 January, 2013

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has expressed annoyance over authorities' failure to arrest the former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman Tauqeer Sadiq on Wednesday and ordered the Punjab Police to submit a report about who was behind his escape from the country.

The court directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to cancel the passport issued to the former OGRA chairman. It further asked NAB to submit an interim report regarding actions taken so far to enforce apex court's orders dated December 18 and 31, 2012.

A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain is hearing the matter pertaining to the arrest of Tauqir Sadiq.

During the hearing, Justice Khawaja remarked that the law enforcement agencies do not appear to be aware of the whereabouts of the accused.

End.
