SC rejects IB report on law, order situation in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: Expressing dissatisfaction over the Intelligence Bureau (IB) report over the worsening law and order situation in Balochistan, the Supreme Court on Friday sought Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) reports from the attorney general of Pakistan until February 6. A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Pervaiz was hearing a Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA) petition against incidents of target killing, kidnapping for ransom and overall law and order situation in the province. During the hearing, the IB director (legal) submitted a report before the bench and said it was classified, therefore, should not be shared with the petitioners. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said, "If you say then we will consider it classified, otherwise the information given in the report has already been published in the newspapers." The CJP said that the bench was not satisfied with the IB report. The court directed the counsel for IB to submit a comprehensive report at the Registrar's Office. The Balochistan additional advocate general submitted a report on behalf of the Special Branch. During the proceedings, the CJP again said, "We are considering hearing this case in Quatta." He also said that people were being killed everyday in Balochistan but no one was taking notice about the matter. The case was adjourned until February 6. BHCBA President Hadi Shakeel Ahmed had filed the petition and made various officials as respondents. End.
