SC refers Afaq's plea to SHC

25 January, 2012

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday referred a petition filed by the Mohajir Qaumi Movement Haqiqi (MQM-H) chief Afaq Ahmad to the Sindh High Court chief justice for not being maintainable.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing a petition filed by Afaq Ahmad, seeking initiation of contempt of court proceedings against the government for not removing the 'No-Go' areas from Karachi despite the court orders.

The court observed that it had not delivered its final judgment in the Karachi target killing case, therefore, contempt of court proceedings could not be initiated in the matter. The court held that the petitioner could approach the Sindh High Court chief justice as he was monitoring the case initiated by the apex court.

The court, however, said that if the petitioner did not find him satisfied, he could again approach the apex court. Meanwhile, talking to reporters after hearing of the case, Afaq Ahmad said the government still had not removed the 'No-Go' areas in Karachi and no political opponent could move in those areas. He said everything was being done under the supervision of the government and one political party.

He said despite the fact that now law and order situation was better in Karachi, the Sindh home minister had suggested to him to shift to Lahore. He said the concerned authorities were not proceeding against the political party thatwas involved in terrorist activities, because it was scared that their government might fall.

End.

Karachi needs some seriouse people

This is fact and no one can denie that Karachi is being ruled by MQM and nothing can happen there without their approval. In other words this real state within state. I will not declare them as terrorist but this is fact that MQM believe in gunning down people who they think can be risk for them. I do not think they are democrats but dictators. yes there is 80% of Karachi is no go area. Karachi needs seriouse attention from the rulers
