SC orders NAB to arrest former OGRA chief

03 October, 2012

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered NAB to immediately arrest former OGRA chairman Tauqir Sadiq and initiate proceedings against him in accordance with the law.

It also sought a comprehensive report from NAB regarding progress in Sadiq's illegal appointment. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was hearing the case of the illegal appointment in OGRA.

At the onset, NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Fauzi Kazmi in pursuance of a court order submitted details of terms of reference and minutes of the executive board meetings of NAB regarding the case. He told the bench that reference against Sadiq had been finalised and would be filed in two days. He alleged Punjab Police was protecting Sadiq, who is said to be a close relative of PPP leader Jahangir Badr.

The court then adjourned hearing until October 4.

End.
