SC issues notice on Musharraf's bail plea
28 September, 2013
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to Jamil Akbar Bugti in response to an appeal filed by former president Pervez Musharraf against Balochistan High Court's (BHC) order of rejecting his post-arrest bail plea in the Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case.
An FIR was registered during 2009 against Musharraf under Sections 302, 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code with reference to the killing of the father of Jamil Akbar Bugti on August 25, 2006.
Ibrahim Satti, the counsel of Musharraf, argued that courts had granted bail to his client in most of the cases on merit; there was no proper evidence against his client (Musharraf) in the Bugti murder case, so he should be granted bail accordingly. Satti had challenged Balochistan High Court's decision on July 30, 2013.
The court had ruled that the applicant (Musharraf) was not produced before the trial court or within the territorial jurisdiction of the trial court in Balochistan.
Satti pleaded that his client was unable to appear before the court concerned due to security reasons and prayed the court to hear the instant matter.
The bench issued notices to Jamil Bugti and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
