SC grants time to ISI, MI to file reports on Balochistan

07 February, 2012

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday, accepting a plea of Attorney General of Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq, granted more time to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) to file their reports on the law and order situation in Balochistan.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the petition filed by the Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA) against the incidents of target killing, kidnapping for ransom and the overall poor law and order situation in the province.

The court observed that nobody was bothered to realise the sensitivity of the Balochistan matter. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said that Balochistan was the soul of Pakistan and if the soul would not be alive then there would no Pakistan. During the hearing, in pursuance of the court's earlier order of January 27, Balochistan Advocate General Amanullah Kunrani submitted a daily situation report and claimed no privilege or confidentiality for the same.

The court adjourned the hearing until February 10.

End.
