SA Opposition leader appointment: PML-F to approach SC, SHC

KARACHI: The Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) announced on Saturday to approach the Sindh High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan against delay in appointment of the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly. Speaking at a joint press conference at Functional House, the PML-F General Secretary Imtiaz Shaikh and former Sindh Assembly Speaker, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah said the Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, the sitting speaker of the assembly, had been failed in implementing the SHC's directives in this regard. They said that the SHC had issued directives to appoint the opposition leader within 10-days, and the time given by the court had bee lapsed without implementation on the verdict. Muzaffar Shah said that appointment of an opposition leader was necessary for formation of the caretaker government as both, leader of the house and opposition leader had to be consulted for caretaker setup. Shah, who is also central leader of the PML-F, said that the party had constituted a five-member committee to be headed by Muzaffar Hussain Laghari to proceed an application in the courts. Other members of the team include Muhammad Yousif Advocate, Muhammad Azam Advocate, Maula Bux Khatian, Fareed Dayo and Mahboob Awan. According to Shah, the party would also inform the Election Commission of Pakistan "about bringing a fake opposition in the Sindh Assembly through PPP-MQM deal." Responding to a question, Imtiaz Shaikh said that many personalities including sitting lawmakers belonging to different political parties were in contact with PML-F leadership to join the party. He said that they would divulge 'good news' to people in this regard very soon. He said that the party's lawyers would file applications on Monday. Other party leaders who were present on the occasion include Akram Wali Muhammad, Kamran Tessori, Qasim Siraj Soomro, Faqir Jadim Mangrio, Mir Muhammad Khokhar, Haji Khuda Bux Rajar, Khair Muhammad Junejo, Dr. Taj and Zubair Memon.
