16 February, 2012
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have united women on one platform and enabled them to play their role in the progress and development of the country. This was stated by MQM Coordination Committee Member Nasrin Jalil while addressing a press conference at Bagh-i-Jinna, here on Wednesday. She was flanked by Coordination Committee Member Mumtaz Anwer, In-charge of the Women Wing of the MQM Kishwar Zahra, Khush Bakht Shujaat, Senator Shirala Mallick and other office-bearers of MQM's Women Wing. MQM's women public gathering with the theme "Empowered Women, Strong Pakistan" would go a long way in emancipating the women from oppressive laws and social customs, she added. She said the women constituted over 52 percent of the population and their role could not be ignored. Jalil said that Karo-Kari, marriage of women with the Holy Quran and other such oppressive customs against women were an ugly blot on the face of the society. Religious extremism and intolerance were weakening Pakistan and it is presently necessary to promote harmony and toleration for saving the country from collapsing, Jalil said. End.
